Roy Bickell Public School and Parents as Partners in Learning
Roy Bickell Public School views our parents/guardians as integral partners to create a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning community in which every student succeeds. Working collaboratively with students, parents, and the community allows us to meet individual student needs. Parents/guardians have a responsibility, as outlined in the Alberta Education Act, to make informed decisions respecting the education of their children. If you have any questions about your child’s education, reach out to their teacher.
Student Learning
In Alberta, Kindergarten to Grade 12 learning is outlined in provincial curriculum. You can access resources to develop an understanding of curriculum and to support student growth and learning:
- Full curriculum details for Kindergarten to Grade 12 can be found at: K to 12 curriculum and programs of study | Alberta.ca
- New Kindergarten to Grade 6 Curriculum information about programming from Alberta Education can be accessed at: New LearnAlberta | Alberta’s K–6 Curriculum
- Educational materials to develop literacy and numeracy, along with health and wellness information at: New LearnAlberta | Student Learning Hub
Getting Involved
Parents/guardians can support their children’s education by “Getting Involved” in the school community. School Council, School Societies, Volunteering, Coaching, and staying in the loop by reading communication and responding to inquiries and surveys are some of the ways to be involved in our school. See “Get Involved” for more information.
Students can be involved, at the division level, by being part of the Board of Trustees Student Advisory Committee. Students from across the Division meet with Board of Trustee members and Division System Leadership to provide the Board an opportunity to engage with students. The members of the committee have the opportunity to share information, provide feedback and support the development of students' personal leadership skills and strengths.
